Taegangneung Royal Tomb

Taegangneung Royal Tomb has two burial sites, Taereung and Gangneung. Taegangneung Royal Tomb is not open to the public. The tomb is located in the north east of Seoul beside Korea Military Academy and Hwarangdae Railroad Station. All the royal tombs in Korea were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in June, 2009.

Taereung Royal Tomb: Taereung tomb holds the body of Queen Munjeong. Queen Munjeong was the second wife of King Jungjong, the 11th King of the Joseon Dynasty.

Gangneung Royal Tomb: Gangneung tomb holds the bodies of King Myeongjong, the 13th King of the Joseon Dynasty and Queen Insun. King Myeongjong’s mother is Queen Munjeong who is also buried at Taegangneung.

Take line 6 to Hwarangdae Subway Station, leave exit 1 and take bus number #202, #1155, #1156, #1225 and get off at the stop after Seoul Women’s University and the tombs will be on your left.
