63 Building Seoul

63 building glowing at sunset

The 63 Building in Seoul also known as 63 city & Golden Tower opened in July 1985. It is located on Yeouido Island along the banks and overlooking the Hangang River. The 63 represents the number of floors it has. 3 floors are located underground and 60 above ground. The building is 246 metres high (817 Feet). It was built at the height of the Korean economy boom and was by far the tallest building in Korea and the tallest building in the world excluding North America. However, it doesn’t even rank in the top 100 tallest buildings in 2010. Currently 63 City is the 3rd tallest building in Korea. The glass windows in the building are made from golden reflective material and when hit by sunlight at sunrise and sunset it glows.

The building is mainly comprised of financial offices and entertainment attractions. Inside you can find many restaurants on the lower levels and between floors 56 to 59. Also on the 3 basement floors you can find an IMAX Theatre, Aquarium, Wax Museum and Shopping Mall. The observatory is located on the 60th floor. It used to be called Sky Deck but this was changed during renovations and called SkyArt. Here you can still take in the view of Seoul and Incheon if it’s clear while enjoying art exhibitions, magic shows and various cultural experiences. Skyart boasts itself as the highest art gallery in the world.
